A leading design-driven architecture practice is seeking an experienced Job Captain to join its San Diego studio. This is an excellent opportunity for an architect with 8+ years of experience to take ownership of medium-scale projects or major components of larger projects, working closely with Project Managers, Project Architects, and Project Designers.
The Role
The Job Captain will manage the day-to-day technical development and documentation of projects, coordinating consultants and junior staff while ensuring projects are delivered to a high standard. The role offers the opportunity to work across multiple project phases, from feasibility and schematic design through construction documentation and administration.
Key Responsibilities

Manage the development and production of projects through schematic design, working drawings, and construction documentation

Coordinate multidisciplinary consultants and project information throughout design and documentation phases

Manage and delegate work to junior staff, providing technical direction and mentorship

Develop programming and site-planning documentation

Produce and review architectural drawings, details, specifications, and project manuals

Ensure documentation aligns with design intent, building systems, codes, and construction requirements

Coordinate drawings and specifications across project teams

Assist with permitting, building codes, zoning, and governmental agency coordination

Participate in construction administration and conduct site observations

Work closely with Project Managers, Project Architects, and Principals to monitor project progress and resolve technical issues

Maintain strong quality control throughout project delivery

Represent the firm at relevant professional organizations and industry events
Requirements

8+ years of professional architecture experience

Strong technical and design documentation experience

Proven experience working on increasingly complex architectural projects

Strong construction documentation and construction administration experience

Knowledge of building materials, specifications, construction techniques, and building codes

Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultants

Strong client communication and presentation skills

Excellent organizational and time-management abilities

Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino or SketchUp, and Microsoft Office

Experience with Enscape, Twinmotion, 3D Studio Max, or similar rendering software is a plus

Architecture degree required

LEED AP preferred
