The Director of Marketing & Business Development will serve as the senior leader responsible for driving the firm's growth initiatives, expanding market presence, and leading a high-performing marketing and business development team. This individual will oversee strategic business development efforts, manage the firm's opportunity pipeline, strengthen client relationships, and ensure all marketing and branding efforts align with long-term business objectives.
The ideal candidate is both a strategic thinker and hands-on leader who can effectively partner with firm leadership, guide pursuit strategies, mentor team members, and cultivate new business opportunities within the architecture, engineering, and construction industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the firm's business development strategy, identifying and pursuing opportunities that align with growth objectives.
- Manage and drive the opportunity pipeline, ensuring focus on the most impactful pursuits and target markets.
- Facilitate go/no-go decisions for prospective projects in collaboration with firm leadership.
- Develop and maintain strategic client targeting initiatives across key sectors and geographic markets.
- Analyze market trends, development activity, and competitive intelligence to inform business strategy.
- Lead pursuit strategies for priority opportunities, ensuring compelling positioning and differentiation.
Client & Leadership Engagement:
- Support partners and principals in developing and executing business development strategies.
- Prepare leadership teams for key client meetings, interviews, presentations, and pursuit opportunities.
- Assist with strategic account planning and relationship management for priority clients.
- Expand and maintain a network of developers, owners, operators, consultants, and industry stakeholders.
- Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, networking functions, and business development activities.
Marketing Strategy & Brand Leadership:
- Develop and oversee marketing initiatives that support the firm's strategic objectives.
- Guide the firm's brand presence across digital, print, social media, public relations, awards, and thought leadership platforms.
- Lead major branding, website, communications, and marketing campaigns.
- Collaborate with external consultants, public relations teams, photographers, and creative partners to ensure consistency and quality.
Team Leadership & Operations:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of marketing, graphics, proposal, and business development professionals.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
- Manage departmental budgets, vendor relationships, events, production costs, and marketing technologies.
- Provide market intelligence and strategic recommendations to firm leadership regarding growth opportunities, industry trends, and sector positioning.
Qualifications:
- 12-15+ years of progressive experience within the architecture, engineering, construction, real estate, or design industry.
- Demonstrated success leading business development and marketing initiatives that generate new business opportunities.
- Experience managing and mentoring marketing and business development teams.
- Strong understanding of the New York City and national development landscape, including developers, owners, operators, consultants, and public agencies.
- Excellent presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Strategic mindset with strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to confidently engage with senior leadership and external stakeholders.
- Strong appreciation for design excellence and visual quality.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience working within residential, hospitality, mixed-use, educational, or cultural sectors.
- Established relationships within the New York City development and real estate community.
- Familiarity with CRM platforms, ERP systems, proposal management software, and business development technologies.
Compensation & Benefits:
Compensation: $195,000 to $210,000 annually, plus benefits. Final compensation will be commensurate with experience.
