About the Role
Norsk Design Build is a design-build firm specializing in high-quality, custom residential remodels and additions. We create spaces that reflect and elevate our clients' vision while staying grounded in functionality, craftsmanship, and buildability.
We're looking for a Lead Designer to take ownership of the design work across our projects and run our design center. You'll work closely with our design and development team, meeting daily to collaborate on active projects and evolve our design standards together. You'll also work extensively with clients, vendors, and our production team to make sure every design detail is understood and buildable. This is a hands-on role — you'll be designing and meeting with clients directly.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end design for projects, from initial client discovery through construction-ready drawings
- Manage the design center, including vendor samples, finishes and trends
- Schedule staff product knowledge meetings with vendors
- Meet extensively with clients to guide material, finish, and product selections
- Collaborate daily with the design team on active projects and evolving design standards
- Partner with the Development & Design Manager and the production team to scope, sequence, and deliver projects on time and on budget
- Create detailed drawings and specifications so design intent is fully understood by clients and executable by installers and subcontractors
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers
- Present design concepts and rationale to clients
- Create selections and change orders as required on BuilderTrend and ensure they are approved by client in a timely manner
- Participate in daily and weekly meetings as required
Qualifications & Skills
- Solid experience in residential design (interior design, architecture, or design-build)
- Extremely detail oriented — able to catch and resolve discrepancies before they reach the job site
- A strong portfolio demonstrating design work on completed, built projects
- Solid knowledge of cabinetry design and installation
- Fluency in relevant design and project software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, etc.)
- Experience with BuilderTrend, MSFT Teams, AI a plus
- Excellent communication skills, comfortable working directly with clients
- Experience collaborating with production teams on implementation and buildability
- Ability to travel to client homes and design centers
