This is a rare blend of hands-on technical leadership and people management — a senior mechanical engineer who can run a team day-to-day while still rolling up their sleeves on complex HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design. A well-respected multidisciplinary engineering and architecture firm with 110+ years of history is looking for someone to anchor their Baltimore mechanical team, drive quality across projects, and mentor the engineers coming up behind them. If you're at the 16+ year mark and ready to lead from the front, this is the role.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and support the Baltimore mechanical engineering team — workload planning, staff assignments, resource coordination, and fostering a collaborative culture.
Oversee HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design across a diverse range of building types, serving as Engineer of Record on select projects.
Lead multidisciplinary project teams, reviewing engineering documents for technical accuracy, completeness, and code compliance.
Work closely with clients to understand project needs and ensure successful, on-time, on-budget delivery.
Coordinate across engineering disciplines and offices, and represent the mechanical team in project meetings and internal planning discussions.
Support proposal efforts including scope development and fee input.
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, supporting their professional growth and licensure goals.
Champion BIM, Revit, and energy modelling adoption, and stay ahead of industry trends and sustainable design practices.

Skills & Experience

16+ years of mechanical engineering design and project management experience.
Active PE licence in Maryland, or ability to obtain one within 6 months through comity from another state.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and energy modelling software.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills — you're as comfortable in a client meeting as you are reviewing a set of construction documents.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; US citizenship required.
