POSITION OVERVIEW The Drafter Job Captain is an experienced interior architect who owns construction and design documentation and supervises the drafters producing it, in studio and remote. You will set priorities, assign and review the team's work, detail the more complex packages yourself, and hold the standard for every set that leaves the office. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING Drawing Production - Produce and oversee plans, elevations, sections, RCPs, and details in AutoCAD. - Develop custom millwork, casework, and finish details with designers and fabricators. - Build and review SketchUp models for design study, presentation, and verification. - Issue sets at every phase, from schematic design through CDs and revisions. Leading the Team - Supervise studio and remote drafters, assigning work and setting deadlines. - Review and redline drawings, and give feedback that improves the next set. - Run check-ins and drawing reviews, including by video call. - Train new drafters on firm standards, templates, and detail libraries. - Balance workload and flag capacity or schedule risks to PMs early. Coordination and Field Support - Coordinate with designers, PMs, and consultants so drawings match design intent. - Incorporate structural, MEP, lighting, and AV, and resolve conflicts before issue. - Conduct field measurements and surveys, and build accurate base drawings. - Respond to RFIs and review shop drawings and submittals. Standards and Quality Control - Maintain firm CAD standards, title blocks, layer conventions, and detail libraries. - Check dimensions, tags, schedules, and notes before every issue. - Keep sets aligned with building code, accessibility, and NYC filing requirements. - Improve templates and typical details so projects start further ahead.
