Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic, highly organized, and passionateDirector of Academic Programs & Lead Instructorto lead our faculty, manage our specialized curriculum, and inspire our students. This is a dual leadership and instructional role designed for an experienced interior design professional who thrives on mentoring both educators and aspiring designers in an accelerated, hands-on environment.
As a core leader of the campus, you will balance classroom teaching with high-level academic operations—ensuring our curriculum is cutting-edge, our classroom environments are immaculate, and our faculty schedules are seamlessly executed.
Position Details & Work Week Expectations
- Employment Type:Full-Time, Salaried (Exempt)
- Compensation:Salary of $60,000 - $75,000 per year based on experience
- Work Week Expectation:While operations are structured around a baseline 40-hour workweek, the actual schedule fluctuates dynamically based on academic rotations, cohort demands, and campus events. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent schedule flexibility, including readiness to support evening or weekend shifts and provide emergency classroom coverage to ensure continuous student success.
- Reporting Relationship: Reports directly to the HSID Dallas Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities
1. Instructional Leadership & Classroom Execution
- Active Teaching:Serve as the Lead Instructor, teaching assigned interior design courses and modules during each academic rotation.
- Emergency Coverage:Act as the ultimate backstop for the campus schedule. If sudden gaps or emergencies arise in the faculty rotation, you will step in to teach the class until a permanent substitute or new hire is securely in place.
- Approvals Management:Understand and adhere to all state and federal level expectations (TWC as well as the Department of Education).
2. Faculty Management, Recruitment & Training
- Talent Acquisition:Source, recruit, interview, and recommend for hire high-caliber, industry-active design professionals to join the HSID instructor pool.
- Onboarding & Training:Design and execute onboarding plans for new instructors, ensuring they understand HSID’s unique culture, hands-on teaching methodologies, and technology platforms.
- Evaluations & Quality Control:Perform routine classroom observations and formal faculty evaluations. Provide constructive feedback, performance coaching, and ongoing professional development to maintain an elite standard of instruction.
- Faculty Scheduling:Manage the master scheduling grid for all courses, workshops, and cohorts each rotation. Ensure there are zero structural gaps in coverage.
3. Curriculum Maintenance & Academic Quality
- Curriculum Lifecycle Management:Own the updates and maintenance of all course syllabi, lesson plans, software tutorials (AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, Adobe, etc.), and grading rubrics.
- Industry Alignment:Ensure that all lesson plans reflect modern interior design trends, building codes, sustainable practices, and technical industry expectations.
4. Student Enrichment & Work-Integrated Learning
- Internship Coordination:Assist in fostering industry partnerships to facilitate student internship placements; track student progress and compliance during their work-integrated learning experiences.
- Grading & File Management:Assist instructors in grading when needed and ensure student files are completed according to TWC rules and standards.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
- Industry Experience:A minimum of 5 years of professional practice in Interior Design. A strong portfolio demonstrating residential, commercial, and technical mastery is preferred.
- Educational Background:A degree in Interior Design or Architecture is preferred but not required based on previous experience. Prior teaching or corporate training experience in an accelerated adult-learning environment is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills:Proficiency in industry-standard software taught at HSID, including Chief Architect, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, or Adobe Creative Suite.
